New York, New York Sarony No Binding Collectible-Fine Book 
Photograph (4 1/4 x 6 1/2 inch) by Sarony with Chritine Nilsson's name at the bottom. 'Russell Brothers, Boston' stamped on the back. Christiana Nilsson, Countess de Casa Miranda (1843-1921) was a Swedish operatic soprano. Her operatic debut was in 1864, in Paris as Violetta in Verdi's 'La Traviata'. During her career she sang at the major opera houses in London, Saint Petersbury, Vienna and New York. She was married to a French banker Auguste Rouzaud and later married the Count de Casa Miranda. Christina died in Stockholm in 1921.Clean photo in excellent shape.

Original brown cloth with gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. 5 X 7 1/4 inches. 195 pages with 12 pages of other books A. C. McClurg & Co publish. Part of the Biographies of Musicians Series. Contents include his youth and early studies, at prince Esterházy's, his first London journey and the Emperor's Hymn-The creation and the seasons. Haydn (1732-1809) was a prominent Austria composer of the Classical period. He was instrumental in the development of Chamber music such as the piano trio and his contributions to musical form earned him the epithets "Father of the Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet." He was also teacher to Beethoven. Copy has a black and white portrait of Haydn. Head and tail are slightly bumped and the corners are slightly worn. Pages are very clean and complete. Binding is tight.

Later in life he was a choreographer, dancer and actor in movies. Early in his career he danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. He emigrated to America prior to World WAr Ii. He had a long presence among the West Coast ballet and film communities. The photo shows Panaieff in costume and in a dance pose.

After retiring from dance, he later taught ballet first in the United States and later in Europe. This photo shows him in costume and in a dance pose. At the time of the photo, Petroff was dancing with the (American) Ballet Theatre

Also a business card (3 x 1 7/8 inch) of Gaudenzia Salassa with an inscription on the backside by Giorgio Polacco in Italian and dated 1 October 1900, San Francisco. Giorgio Polacco (1873-1960) was a world famous opera conductor in Rio de Janeiro and Rome. In 1912 he was conductor of the Italian wing of the Metropolitan Opera. He was music director and conductor in Chicago and his last performance was in 1930. Fine clean association pieces.

217 Pollack, Ben Portrait Postcard with Short Note
1933 No Binding Collectible-Very Good Book 
(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch) addressed to Hugh Randolph of Newark, NJ from Ben Pollack. The front is a photo of Ben Pollack and his wife, the singer Doris Robbins. The back, dated 27 January 1933. is a handwritten note: "Dear Hugh. See you soon again in N.Y. Best wishes, Ben". Ben Pollack (1903-1971) was a drummer and band leader during the twenties through the forties. He helped discover or employ Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Glen Miller, Jimmy McPartland and Harry James. He was sometimes known as "Father of Swing". Very successful during the 20s recording records and touring, but like all things the Depression slowed down business and in the 30s and 40s he struggled. Doris Robbins became his wife. In 1971 after career problems he committed suicide by hanging in Palm Springs.
