Gold dust assay receipt. Palmer & Day's Assay Office. Folsom, Ca. March 9th,1861. 3 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches. The receipt is numbered 3371. Palmer and Day issue a receipt to John McCombe for 6 2/3 ounces of gold dust. Charles T.H. Palmer (1827-1897) came to California from Connecticut during the Gold Rush. He was a pioneer businessman and later practiced law in San Francisco. Receipt bears the business signature of "Palmer & Day". The Palmer & Day Assay Office was located on Sutter St. in Folsom. It also served as the western terminus for the Pony Express from July1860 to October 1861. The receipt has mild soiling on the upper left corner and a small rubbed spot in the center. It has also been folded.
