"California Parent-Teacher" (Magazine), Vol. 1, No. 1 (February, 1925) to Vol. 45, No. 1 (September, 1968, last issue of magazine). 465 issues present, lacking Vol. 3, No. 7 (Sept. 1927); Vol. 3, Nos. 9 & 10 (Nov. and Dec. 1927); Vol. 4, No. 1 (March, 1928); Vol. 6, Nos. 3-4 (June and Aug. 1930); and Vol. 33, No. 2 (Oct. 1956). The "California Parent Teacher" Magazine was founded by the Congress of California Parents and Teachers in 1925 and featured issues and personalities of interest to elementary and secondary education in the State of California. From 1925 to 1928 it was known as "Parent Teacher" and from 1928 to 1968 the magazine was known as "California Parent Teacher". The magazine includes many photographs and much advertising and for most of its history had a column that reviewed movies as to their appropriateness for children. Spokane, Wash.. Original holograph manuscript. Inside cover title "Kappa Gamma Secretary Notes 1915". Bound leather journal (5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch). 125 pages. Ink autograph entries. The Kappa Gamma Society of Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington was organized in 1915 with the stated purpose of "developing our literary talents, and particularly promoting friendship and love among ourselves". Membership was made up of students of the college. The book begins with a constitution of the club and the Kappa Gamma Song. Over the years this journal was used by different secretaries to keep minutes (usually short entires) to maintain a membership roster, and to write down events out of the ordinary. the different secretaries who sign their names in the journal are: Iva Loughlen (1915); Helen Harper (1916); Anna Mary Muir (1916); Hazel A. Peth (1917); Bernadine Inkers (1917); Esther D. Muir (1918); a gap; Lucille Buck (1922); Eleanor Stockett (1923); Delilah Barber (1923); Thelma Porter (1924); Mary Ransburg (1925); Luella Bruce (1925); Lessie Rasco (1926); Lillian Brown 91926); Mary Ransburg (1927); Leah Grove (1927); and Zada Padgham (1928). In the earlier years of the club (1915-22) the group studies and gives presentations on many then current and popular authors, such as Rabindranith Tagore, Amy Lowell, and George Bernard Shaw. They also sponsor the annual May Pole Dance. As the years go by, the society devotes less time to literary studies and more to promoting social functions. They add a Halloween Tea. As the journal of meeting minutes ends, the young women are playing Hearts and Risk, and having slumber parties and waking up to waffles. Condition: Very Good. (Book ID 11279) $125.00
