This was the author's first book. Andre L. Simon (1877-1970) was born in France and was a leading expert on wine and food. He founded, in 1933, the International Wine and Food Society (now 8000 members in 40 countries). He is the author of A CONCISE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GASTRONOMY, his most famous work. Renowned as a bibliophile, gourmet, wine connoisseur, historian and writer, he is noted for saying "a man dies too young if he leaves any wine in his cellar".
