Original tan wrapper with a black and white photograph of a train on the front cover, a paddle wheel ship on the back cover. 9 X 4 inches. Copy is 3 sheets folded into quarters, making 22 pages. Pages 3-20 have small black and white photographs on the bottom of each page. Pages 1-2 show a black and white photograph of Lake Atlin, pages 21-22 show a map of Alaska and the White Pass & Yukon Route across Alaska. Copy is not bound and the 3 pages are loose, however complete. Pages are clean.

3 Bond Coupons for the American River Water and Mining Company
1861 No Binding Collectible-Very Good Book 
Dimensions 14 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches, folded in center. Very minor chipping on edges, some discoloration. 20 coupons to collect interest quarterly on a bond for the American River Water and Mining Company, dated March, 1861 to December, 1865. Each coupon is signed by Francis Clark, Treasurer. The American River Water and Mining Company was formed in 1854 to build a ditch to divert water from the North Fork of the American River. The North Fork Ditch was dug from 1854-1856, and provided water for drinking, irrigation and mining operations to areas that are now Northeast Folsom, Orangevale and Fair Oaks. One of the founders was Amos P. Catlin (1823-1900), a resident of Mormon Island who later became a State Senator and Judge. Francis Clark was a successful Folsom businessman, partner in Brooks, Clark and Co.

Original illustrated wrappers. 6 x 9 inches. 32 pages. Signed on the back cover by silet movie actress Ruth Roland (b. 1892, d. 1937) and actor Ivan Lebedeff (b. 1894, d. 1953). Some moisture staining at top of some interior pages and chip at top of page 18 / 19. The Cathay Circle Theater was a major Hollywood theater when it first opened in 1926 and it hosted many movie premiers over the years. It was demolished in 1969. The theatre very much tried to tie into its California paqst in its interior decorati9ons, using paintings, sculptures, and photographs of California historical places and people. The booklet lists and has photographs of the men who designed, built and owned the theatre. The artists who's paintings and sculptures adorn the theatre were Alson Clark, Frank Tenney Johnson and Henry Lion. There are 19 pages showing the artists' work.

7 Carbon Typescript of Catholic Hymns Translated from English to Salish, Spokane Kalispel Language
(Spokane, WA) Soft cover Very Good Book 
Produced at St. Michael's Mission, Spokane, Washington. Forty five hymns written using English Alphabet and other symbols to capture the phonetic sounds of the language (Salish) of the Spokane Kalispel Indians. No date, but circa 1920's. 57 page carbon typescript with music related holograph annotations in red ink. Rubber stamp of "Bibl. Scholasticus Prov. Oreg. S.J." 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Plain brown outer wrapper using brads. St. Michael's was a Jesuit mission founded in the mid 19th Century near Spokane to serve the Spokane Indian tribe. It was later relocated to another site near Spokane and underwent a number of functions before becommin a private parish in 1977. The compilation of Catholic and Christian hymns into English alphabet spelling tries to capture the phonetic sounds of the language of the Spokane Indians. It was done to bring uniformity in the teaching of the hymns at St. Michaels. A pronunciation guide is provided as is and index to the hymns. Both the Indian language and the English language titles of the hymns are listed in the index. For example: "Onward Christian Soldiers" translates into "Ilumiyyn Jesusak" and "Holy Queen We Bend" becomes "Kellim Anamta."

Signed by J.B. Mc Nally, President, and attested to by Edward Gilson, Secretary. Certificate numbered 2621. Printed on gold colored paper. 7 3/4 X 9 inches. The Catholic Mutual Benefit Association of The Archdiocese of San Francisco was founded on February 1, 1880. Its basic premise was that upon the death of one of its members, that member's designated beneficiary was to receive an amount of money equal to one dollar for every member of the association, up to $2,000. The association ended in 1890. During its short time in existence, it enrolled over 2,600 members and paid out $250,000 in benefits. It became insolvent when "death assessments" on members got to be 3 to 4 assessments per month. Copy has been folded. Very nice copy.

Articles include, Hotel Del Monte Social Notes, Presidio of Monterey Notes and Comments, Pebble Beach notes of the Week, Monterey Peninsula The Motorist's Paradise, The Weather at Hotel Del Monte, Hotel Del Monte (tells about the hotel), San Francisco Stories, Pacific Grove Personal Mention and the Editors Mail Box. Copy also has 7 pages of advertisements such as an ad for the Pacific Grove Hotel and Hope Ranch in Santa Barbara. The front cover is slightly crease in the upper corner. There is also a rubber stamp mark on the lower front cover which reads, "Do Us The Favor if you write or go to this place to mention The Peck-Judah Co., Inc."

12 Document, Gold Dust Assay Receipt.
No Binding Collectible-Fine Book 
Gold dust assay receipt. Palmer & Day's Assay Office. Folsom, Ca. March 9th,1861. 3 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches. The receipt is numbered 3371. Palmer and Day issue a receipt to John McCombe for 6 2/3 ounces of gold dust. Charles T.H. Palmer (1827-1897) came to California from Connecticut during the Gold Rush. He was a pioneer businessman and later practiced law in San Francisco. Receipt bears the business signature of "Palmer & Day". The Palmer & Day Assay Office was located on Sutter St. in Folsom. It also served as the western terminus for the Pony Express from July1860 to October 1861. The receipt has mild soiling on the upper left corner and a small rubbed spot in the center. It has also been folded.
