Collection of original items from Victoria B.C. Circa 1940's. Collection contains, 1 Scurrahs Clothing business card. tan, 2 1/4 X 3 3/4 inches. Scurrahs was owned by Percy Beall Scurrahs (1883-1970) was at one time, mayor of Victoria from 1955-1961. He was the first mayor to hold 3 consecutive terms. "Birks in Victoria" flyer, trifold measures 5 1/4 X 9 inches with blue and red text. Henry Birks (1840-1928) was a Canadian businessman and founder of Henry Birks & Sons. Flyer of the Windermere Hotel, bifold measuring 5 3/ 4 X 9 inches unfolded. A black and white photograph of the Windermere Hotel is on the front cover, inside are 4 black and white photographs of the Sun Room, Entrance Lobby, Lounge and the Dinning Room, the back cover has a map showing the location of the hotel. "Victoria B.C. Auto Courts". Page folded in fourths, measuring 9 1/2 X 14 inches unfolded. Blue and red lettering. 2 photographs on the front cover, inside 2 photographs and a map of the 37 auto courts. Back cover has a map of Eaton's. "Victoria Cadboro Court" Trifold measuring 9 X 12 inches unfolded. Black lettering. 4 black and white photographs with a map on the back. All items are very clean.

On the inside is a color map of Oregon. Copy is torn along a few creases. Copy is complete. Small chip along edge. A small rubber stamp mark that reads, "23366" is on the lower edge of the front cover. A small impressed stamp reading, "Columbia Museum Library" is on the upper corner. Text on map is not affected. Copy is clean.

Volume two only. Publisher's green cloth, with some small splits at top and bottom of spine and with some sunning. Hinges professionally strengthened. Although just volume two of a two volume set, the narrative includes all of the California portion. Kurutz, "California Gold Rush Bibliography" number 409" Chapter XII, the final portion of the second volume, details a visit to San Francisco. Lucett arrived at the port on October 20, 1849, and spent nine weeks in the city observing the infulence of gold upon its inhabitants. Reflecting on the high prices and the state of labor he noted: "Labour and handicraft work is at an immense premium, whilst the services of those skilled in the humanities are at a comparative discount." Lucett also described Sacramento, 'Sutter's' Fort, and Marshall's discovery. This merchant author wrote in cynical terms about what he saw." The two plates in this volume are "The Island of Moorea" and "The Native Church at the Island of Moorea." 371 pages.

Appears to have been removed from a 3rd edition or later of "A Voyage to South America ." by Don George Juan and Don Antonio de Ulloa, translated by John Adams (Esq. of Waltham Abbey), who also corrected this map as he had resided in South America for several years.
