The Pike in Long Beach was the most famous Amusement Zone on the west coast from 1902 to 1969. A mile long beach boardwalk along the shore and home to the 'Cyclone Racer' among other famous rides. One could attend movies, eat lunch or dinner, watch vaudeville shows, or dance the evening away, besides going for an indoor swim.

No place or date but Boston, circa 1901. Three pages. 4 1/4 x 6 inches. Mildred Howells was the daughter of the famous American author William Dean Howells. She was an author and artist. She did the illustrations for the "Whist Calendar for 1902" published by Noyes, Platt and Company. In this letter to her publisher, she writes that she is returning the proofs for the calendar and asks that one be improved. She wants a darker blue used in the illustration of Mr. Pickwick. She also tells Mr. Nioyes what she knows about Whist Cubs in New York and Boston. In black ink. Signed in full.
