It was later relocated to another site near Spokane and underwent a number of functions before becommin a private parish in 1977. The compilation of Catholic and Christian hymns into English alphabet spelling tries to capture the phonetic sounds of the language of the Spokane Indians. It was done to bring uniformity in the teaching of the hymns at St. Michaels. A pronunciation guide is provided as is and index to the hymns. Both the Indian language and the English language titles of the hymns are listed in the index.
