"Memorandum for Sir John Nisbet's Attorney at New York," by an unknown hand. 2 1/2 holograph pages (7 1/4 x 12 inches) dated 1793. The background of this memorandum is that John Edgar, 'Accountant for Excise' has brought a suit against the late Sir John Nisbet and his brother Alexander before Lord Henderland in Edinburgh. The author of the memorandum believes that a Walter Ruthfurd of New Jersey has information relating to Sir John Nisbet's wife that is relative to the suit being brought against the Nisbets. He further believes that Rutherfurd is in possession of 'partial counsel,' is not an objective witness. The author instructs Nisbet's New York attorney how to interrogate Rutherfurd and how to bring him before the Federal Court in New York to solicit testimony favorable to the Nisbet's case. Four inch repair using Document repair tape to reinforce it. Clear penmanship by the writer makes this document quite clear and easy to read.
