Cheung Lee) was a Chinese American painter and lithographer and was one of the first Chinese artists to enroll in a western art school. Lee studied under Eric Spencer Macky (1880-19458), a New Zealand painter, and Gottardo Piazzoni (1872-1945), an American landscape painter, muralist, and sculptor. Lee won many awards and had several exhibitions in his lifetime. From Edan Milton Hughes, Artists in California, 1786-1940; page 670: "Born in Hoy Ping, China on May 4, 1896. Lee began his art studies in China. At age 18 he immigrated to San Francisco where he spent two years studying English at the Congregational School. ... He spent 1925 in China with his family, married, and then returned to San Francisco. During the 1930s he exhibited regularly and was employed by the Federal Art Project. His oeuvre includes cityscapes of San Francisco, landscapes, and portraits in oil and watercolor."
