Copy of General John A. Rawlins, with his name misspelled at the bottom of the spine in gilt lettering. Original publisher's 3/4 brown leather binding with multicolored marbled boards. 6 1/2" x 9 1/4." 717 pages, complete. Gilt lettering and raised bands on spine. Marbled endpapers. Pages are clean and intact overall but have slight foxing, and a few of the last pages have some dampstaining in the margins. Binding is tight. A roster listing the men who served in the 21st through 47th Illinois Regiments. John Aaron Rawlins (1831-1869) was a general of the Union Army who served under Generals John C. Fremont and Ulysses S. Grant and President Abraham Lincoln. After Grant was elected as the new U.S. president, Rawlins was named Secretary of War.
