Original small broadside printed on beige paper. 5 3/8" x 8 3/8." One page, complete. Paper is pristine and intact except for a horizontal fold line at the center and some handwriting in black ink on the back. A Fine copy. After the title, the rest of the announcement reads, "A special welcome from His Excellency Philip G. Scher, Bishop of Fresno-Monterey, awaits you. Special I. C. F. Excursion Train will be operated from San Francisco ... Low roundtrip fares. Don't miss this glorious outing! Reserve the date--Sunday, October 7, 1934." The Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) was founded in 1924 by two Italian immigrants, newspaperman Luigi Providenza and Reverend Albert R. Bandini. The mission of the ICF was to promote Christianity and to help Italian immigrants feel at home in the United States. The ICF still exists to this day with over 12,000 members and now accepts members of non-Italian descent. Philip George Scher (1880-1953) was a clergyman from the Roman Catholic Church who served as Bishop of Fresno-Monterey from 1933 until his passing.
