The Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) was founded in 1924 by two Italian immigrants, newspaperman Luigi Providenza and Reverend Albert R. Bandini. The mission of the ICF was to promote Christianity and to help Italian immigrants feel at home in the United States. The ICF still exists to this day with over 12,000 members and now accepts members of non-Italian descent. Philip George Scher (1880-1953) was a clergyman from the Roman Catholic Church who served as Bishop of Fresno-Monterey from 1933 until his passing.
