The California Monthly was a general-interest magazine that featured stories related to the University of California, Berkeley. The magazine was founded in 1897 as the University of California Magazine. The stories could range between research findings; news about faculty, students, and alumni; and current events in national and world news. The California Monthly eventually shortened its name to "California" in 2006 which is still published to this day as a quarterly magazine. The following are some of the articles and features in this issue: a list of schools and camps listed under "School and Camp Service," "How Long Can Life Endure?" [about the longevity of plants and animals], "Sir Francis Drake's Plate of Brass" [about the Plate of Brass that turned out to be a hoax], "Californian, 1895 Model" [about campus life], "Californians You Should Know," "A Nice Spring, Thanks" [sports section], "Editorial Comment on Leaders, a Fair, History," "Have a Good Time, But--; Medical School Faculty Members Give a Few Valuable Vacation Hints" [about how to treat medical emergencies while on vacation], and "On Seven Campuses."
