Original lithograph card with a color illustration on front of a trompe l'oeil animal portrait, an abstract green background that is torn away to reveal two dogs, a collie and a terrier. The edges of the trompe l'oeil cutout are accented in gilt. No date, circa 1890s-1910s. 5 1/2" x 3 1/2." Card is very clean and intact except for slight age toning, slightly bumped tips, and minimal edge wear. A Fine copy. This card bears some resemblance to trade cards, which are antique business cards and the predecessors of modern trading cards. Trade cards were most common during the late nineteenth century.
