Original black-and-white photograph of Tomales High School in Tomales, California. A landscape view shown from an angle. The school is in the middleground, a field of grass and a wooden fence are in the foreground, and a tree is in the background. Photo mounted on black matboard. Photo has sepia tones. No date, circa 1912. Matboard measures 6 1/2" x 5 1/2." Photo measures 4 3/4" x 3 3/4." Former owner's handwriting on back in ink, a brief description of the subject in the photo and perhaps a signature. Photo and matboard are very clean and intact overall. Photo is age-toned with some discoloration and slight wear at the edges. Matboard has slight edge wear. A Very Good copy. Tomales High School was founded in 1912 in the town of Tomales, California. It opened as a two-classroom building with twenty-three students and one faculty member who served as both teacher and principal. Eventually, there was an increase in student enrollment and renovations were made to the school. Tomales High School is still open to this day and currently serves the communities of Marin County and Sonoma County.
