A Very Good copy. A treaty between Great Britain and Russia. Signed under King George II (1683-1760) and Empress Elizabeth I (1709-1762). This treaty affirmed that Great Britain and Russia would defend one another should either come under attack. One of the two "separate and secret" articles states that Britain will pay Russia 100,000 pounds per year for maintaining a military force protecting the border of Livonia (Lithuania). The article continues that the amount of compensation would be increased to 500,000 pounds in the event of an attack at the Livonian border. The other secret article appears to reaffirm the content of the main part of the treaty, in stating that Britain and Russia will mutually protect each other, and adds that any correspondence on the matter will be done confidentially. This treaty played a role in the Seven Years' War.
